About

Uemata Tatam is in Sakamoto,Otsu City, Shiga Prefecture, where the World Heritage Site Enryakuji Temple is situated.
Uemata Tatami Sangyo is committed to using eco-friendly Tatami made from
recycled tea leaves and creates Japanese tatami mats that meet the needs of the times while seeking the highest quality of Tatami as a traditional craft.
We enjoy using Tatami as art by sewing kimono materials into our Tatami by hand. Our skills and techniques have been inherited over successive generations. As a result, we craft each mat with great attention and pride.
Uemata Tatami will continue to create a life with Tatami by manufacturing Tatami mats that can be used in the modern age while honoring Japanese
traditions.

About

Tatami Made from Recycled
Tea Husks

To realize a sustainable society,we must consider the global environment.
We reuse tea leaves and use a recycling system to put tea leaves in the base of the tatami creating a sustainable product.
The active ingredient in tea leaves, catechins, creates a deodorizing effect. This
attribute, combined with the relaxing effect of the tatami itself, brings fresh air to your home.
Because tea leaves and tatami share the same blue component, the Tea does not counteract to remove the smell of rush from tatami mats.
Therefore, you still enjoy the fragrance of traditional tatami.

Mold-resistant tatami

Machine-spun Japanese paper.
Compared to the rush, it is easy to maintain as it is less prone to mildew.
It is not prone to fade and retains its original beauty.
It has excellent water repellency, which can be wiped clean if a drink is spilled.
It inhibits the growth of bacteria, thus helping to create a clean living environment.
Tatami is less prone to damage by scratches and friction, so it maintains its good condition over a long period.

Artistic Tatami mats made
with Kimono textile edges.

By hand-sewing a Kimono sash to the edge of the Tatami, the mat becomes a gorgeous accent piece.
It can create a luxurious space and be used as an art piece to highlight areas.
Tatami mats sewn using kimono materials have a new sensibility. These mats started by inheriting the warmth of traditional Tatami, transmitting the feeling of the feet "sliding" and "stopping" as a tradition underfoot.
Feel the richness of life and nurture the beauty of Japan.
While inheriting the traditional beauty of Japan, we create a new perspective by merging two beautiful crafts into an elegant and modern product.
